CHALLENGE RATING: “Steep long hills, stairs, short technical sections”
Come with us on a twilight group trail running adventure through the lush greenery of Marysville State Forest and Steavenson Falls reserve on Taungurung Country. Marysville State Forest is located approximately 1.5 hours drive north east of Melbourne. The area is renowned for its lush eucalypt forests, clear streams and spectacular waterfalls. Our twilight tours offer the opportunity to take in another aspect of these beautiful locations and experiences. It’s peaceful, cooler and immersive. A great way to experience trail running at night in a safe and supported format.
Steavenson Falls were opened to tourists in 1866, and drop a total of 84 m in three stages into the Steavenson River valley. The falls are an easy walk from the carpark and are accessible by wheelchair users. The gravelled paths and falls are floodlit between dusk and 11pm.
Our tour distances are a 15km/640m elevation gain or 25km loop with 900m of elevation gain which starts and finishes at Gallipoli Park in Marysville. Our tour takes in Taggerty River and Taggerty river lookout, Gallipoli Park, Steavenson river, Steavenson Falls, Keppell lookout, Oxlee lookout and De La Rue lookout, a 15km aid station with water refills, cold coke, chips, watermelon and lollies.
We have paces suitable for all running abilities. We run the flats and downs at your comfortable pace and where safe to do so. We usually hike the climbs, although runners are welcome to run to the tops of the hills and wait for regroups or double back from the top to get some extra elevation gains.
The trail is mainly hard packed limestone or dirt access trails consisting of management access tracks and walking tracks. There are a couple of short sections of hard packed technical terrain where the trail will become a single track including a short section of stairs.
We have something for everyone on this run which will be lead by our experienced, fun loving trail running tour guides.
Post run refreshments will be from the Duck Inn Marysville.
