This tour is subject to meeting minimum numbers of 4 customers. 

All runners have the option to change to the alternative distance throughout the day. The bus returns to the city once the long course runners return. Short course city transfer runners have the option to extend their distance or relax around the bus with the snacks and enjoy the peaceful surrounds.

Come with us on a group trail running adventure through the beautiful and challenging Cobaw State forest.

Cobaw is a technical trail runners dream. You’ll always either be going up or down as you follow our guides along challenging 4wd tracks and some trail bus special trails. This tour has every version of trail type, keeping you engaged as the kms click by. Within a 1 hour 20 minute drive north from the city, it’s an accessible gem that will leave you wanting to come back and explore more.

Cobaw is a declared Special Protection Zone and has many significant environmental values. It is home to:

  • Brush-tailed Phascogale
  • Eastern Grey Kangaroo
  • Swamp Wallaby  
  • Sugar Glider
  • Common Brushtail Possum
  • Mountain Brushtail Possum

Our tour takes in:

  • Macedon Ranges
  • Cobaw State Forest
  • Cobaw Ridge
  • Granite boulders and outcrops
  • 4wd tracks and single tracks
  • Messmate eucalypt-dominated forests

We have something for everyone on this run which will be lead by our experienced trail running, fun loving tour guides, who will be there to support you running your own pace.

Distances available:

  • 11km, 300m elevation gain
  • 25km, 800m elevation gain

 

The bus will leave at 6:00am from our the tourist bus bays on St Kilda rd opposite Hamer Hall and the State Theatre. We will stop for toilets, coffee and food on our way there and back.

 

Meet us for an 8:00am start at 8:00am start from Cobaw State Forest Parking are, Ridge Rd, Benloch VIC 3435. Enter via Burke and Wills rd.

What to bring:

  • Water containment for 1 litre or borrow ours
  • Good condition trail running shoes
  • Running sports wear to suit the weather (a weather update will be sent closer to the tour day)
  • Any emergency medications you may need
  • A towel and change of clothes for after the run

What your guides will cover:

  • 11km aid station with chips, fruit, lollies, coke and water
  • Navigation and tour flagging
  • Free gear hire, vests, hiking poles, rain jackets and hydration bottles/bladders
  • The photos and video
  • Customer first aid response (all guides first aid trained and carry first aid kits, with further first aid supplies in van)
  • Regroups and head counts
  • Radio comms and group coordination
  • Emergency response communications via mobile phones, satellite phones and personal locator beacons
  • Jelly snake and vegan jelly distributors
  • In run toiletries
  • Customer snake bandages
  • Sunscreen, hand sanitiser, wet wipes

 

We strongly recommend having air ambulance cover for this run and all trail runs, due to costs and difficult of access in the remote terrains.
