When: Saturday 17/6/23 – Sunday 18/6/23
For City Transfers : The bus will leave on Saturday 17/6/23 at 2:30pm from the tourist bus bays on St Kilda rd opposite Hamer Hall and the State Theatre.
Run start time: Sunday 18/6/23 7:00am run start from Lake Tali Karng Wellington River Trail Head, Tamboritha Rd, Crookayan VIC 3858 (at the parking area just after crossing the bridge)
Run location: West Gippsland. Alpine National Park (22km north of Licola)
Travel time: 2 and a half hours to Heyfield (accommodation), 1 hour from Heyfield to run start
Run distance: 33km 2000m
Arrive back in Melbourne: Sunday 18/6/23 approx 9pm – 9:30pm
Fitness pre-requisites: a minimum 30km trail run with at least 1000m elevation in the past 6 months.

This tour is subject to meeting minimum numbers of 4 customers 1 week before the tour date.

Come with us on a group trail running adventure through on the lands of the Gunaikurnai People in the amazing Alpine National Park as we take on the Crinoline Circuit. This breathtaking trail is a haven for trail runners seeking an unforgettable adventure amidst stunning natural beauty. The Crinoline circuit offers a challenging and diverse route, encompassing approximately 33km of awe-inspiring landscapes.

Prepare to be captivated by the ever-changing scenery as you traverse through lush forests, meandering creeks, and open alpine meadows. The trail boasts a mix of challenging , steep ascents and descents, testing your endurance and agility. As you conquer each elevation gain, be rewarded with panoramic vistas of the surrounding mountain ranges and breathtaking views of the Victorian Alps. Immerse yourself in the serenity of the trail, surrounded by native wildlife and vibrant flora. The Crinoline walking track circuit is an absolute must for trail runners looking to push their limits and experience the raw beauty of the Australian Alps.

We will be heading up Saturday afternoon, leaving from our St Kilda road bus pick up point at 2:30pm. Our drive will take approx 3 and a half hours to reach our accommodation at The Heyfield Railway Hotel 24 George St, Heyfield Vic 3858. We have an optional group dinner booking in the hotel restaurant for 6:30pm. Our rooms are twin share. The contemporary designed twin rooms have two single beds and include an en-suite, cutlery, complimentary toiletries, air conditioning, TV, kettle, tea and coffee and Free Wi-fi. All bedding and towels are provided. All efforts will be made to have same gender shared rooms. If this is your preference please make a note in your purchase. Our accommodation is located in town within walking distance of the bakery (breakfast option with a 5:30am opening time), supermarket and cafes. There are many free campsites along Tamboritha Rd near our run start point. Not all have toilets. More info here.

On Sunday morning our bus will leave our accommodation at 5:45am for a 7:00am run start. Our run is completely remote without vehicle support and will be a full day out. Our guides will have the usual jelly snakes and water filtration supplies for you. We recommend bringing a packed lunch to enjoy at the lake. With regroups and breaks our run should take us around 9 hours to complete. Post run we will head home from our run finish point, stopping to grab food on the way. We will arrive at approximately 9:00pm – 9:30pm in the city.

Our Accommodation provides:

What to bring:

  • 2 litres of water containment
  • Good condition trail running shoes. The terrain has mud, slippery rocks, loose rocks and snow. Goretex would be favourable.
  • Emergency kit to include: Weatherproof jacket, weatherproof pants, buff, gloves (preferably weatherproof), beanie, thermal long sleeve top, pair of leggings. This is so we can change into dry base layers and stay dry if anything affects our mobility. Please make sure all of this gear can be stowed dry in your packs. If you need any of this gear or a dry bag let us know and we’ll have spares for you to borrow.
  • Charged head torch
  • Running gear to suit the weather. Advised long top and long pants. There is a lot of technical trail where we will be taking our time to navigate safely and some hiking and running through snow. It is not realistic that running will always keep us warm.
  • Any in run snacks/lunch to eat on the move
  • Any emergency medications you may need
  • A towel and change of clothes for post run

Tour Schedule

2:30pm Saturday bus pick up from the tourist bus bays on St Kilda rd opposite Hamer Hall and the State Theatre. We will stop along the way for a break, grabbing a beer at Bandolier Brewing in Warrugal. Arriving at 6:00pm at our accommodation in Heyfield. We have a dinner booking for 7pm and the local supermarket is open till 8pm.

Sunday  7:00am run start from Tamboritha Rd, Crookayan VIC 3858 (at the parking area just before crossing the bridge).

 

We strongly recommend having air ambulance cover for this run and all trail runs, due to costs and difficult of access in the remote terrains.
